Upcoming changes in residential care time

Image related to residential care time changes

From 1 October 2024, aged care homes will be required to give residents an average of 215 minutes of direct care per day. This is a 15-minute increase from the current sector average.

This means people in aged care homes will receive the dedicated care time they need.

Registered nurses, enrolled nurses, personal care workers or assistants in nursing can provide care minutes for activities including:

  • arranging health appointments
  • supporting residents to attend social activities
  • managing treatments and procedures
  • helping with daily tasks like bathing.

For more information, visit Care Minutes in residential aged care or read the Minister's media release.
