Pillar 1: Home care

We know most senior Australians want to stay at home for as long as possible. We can support them to live independently in their own homes through home care.

The Australian Government is investing $7.5 billion over 5 years on home care reforms. Reforms in home care will deliver:

  • more home care packages
  • increased respite, training and support for informal and family carers
  • face-to-face help to navigate the aged care system
  • more quality and safety checks for home care
  • at home support and care based on assessed needs
  • improved transparency through home care cost comparisons.

The Government will also provide more support for senior Australians from diverse backgrounds, such as:

  • more translation and interpreting services
  • services connected to family and community
  • better information on providers that deliver culturally appropriate services.
