2024–25 Budget: Quality aged care

An older couple smiles warmly at the camera, with the man wearing a blue polo shirt and the woman in a pink shirt. The man has his arm around the womans shoulders, showing a loving and supportive gesture.

The Australian Government’s 2024–25 Budget includes $2.2 billion to improve safe, quality aged care.
We are:

  • reducing wait times for older people seeking Home Care Packages
  • building the aged care workforce
  • delivering an enhanced quality and safety regulator
  • upgrading technology and digital infrastructure across the aged care sector.

The Budget will promote stronger links between aged care and health systems to ensure older people get the medical support they need in a safe and comfortable environment.

We are continuing to consult with older people, their families and carers to improve the standard of aged care. To get involved, visit the Aged Care Engagement Hub.

Let's change aged care, together

Every Australian should feel confident about accessing high quality and safe aged care, when and where they need it.

The changes mean Older people will have greater choice and control, services that respect and meet their needs, and support to stay independent as they age.
