Are you or a family member or friend thinking about getting support as you age? The first step is to have an aged care assessment.

You can check your eligibility and apply for your first aged care assessment online through My Aged Care.

You can apply for all types of support including help at home, short term care or care in an aged care home.

The online application takes around 15 minutes and includes three parts:

  1. checking your eligibility
  2. recording your details - you will need a Medicare card
  3. confirming who the assessment organisation should contact to arrange your assessment.

You can also complete the application on behalf of someone else.

If you do not have a Medicare card, or would prefer to speak to someone, you can also apply for an assessment:

  • over the phone by calling My Aged Care on 1800 200 422
  • in person by making an appointment to see an Aged Care Specialist Officer at selected Services Australia locations. Book by calling 1800 227 475.
