Be aware of aged care scams
We are aware of scammers who are pretending to be aged care providers. They are targeting older people and their families and stealing their money.
Here are some tips on how to protect yourself:
-
Always check who's contacting you. Don't click on links, share personal information or transfer money unless you're sure it's your aged care provider.
-
If you get a suspicious call, text or email, call your aged care provider directly using a number you have found yourself to confirm it's them.
-
Before you send money, call your provider to confirm you have the correct bank account details.
-
If something feels wrong, stop the transaction or conversation right away. Contact your aged care provider to confirm or ask someone you trust for help.
If you think you've been scammed, report it. Tell the police and contact your bank immediately. You should also report the scam to ScamWatch and ReportCyber.
