Changes to aged care maximum room prices

We're changing the maximum room price an aged care provider can charge without approval.

Currently, providers need approval from the Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority to charge more than $550,000 for a room. Starting 1 January 2025, this limit will increase to $750,000.

This doesn't mean room prices will automatically change. If you are already living in an aged care home, your current room price won't change.

When moving into an aged care home, the price you pay depends on the room you choose and the price you agree on with your provider. It also depends on whether your aged care home has approval to charge more than the maximum room price.

You can check room prices for aged care homes using the Find a Provider tool on the My Aged Care website.
