Introducing new staffing quality indicators
We are expanding the National Aged Care Mandatory Quality Indicator (QI) Program to measure further aspects of the quality of care in aged care homes.
The QI program currently measures 11 critical areas of care that can affect the health and wellbeing of aged care residents.
By July 2025, we'll have 3 new quality indicators:
- enrolled nursing
- allied health
- lifestyle officers.
This will improve the quality of residential care. The new indicators will:
- measure and improve the health and wellbeing of residents
- help providers understand and improve their services
- increase providers accountability for continuous improvement.
We are introducing these quality indicators following consultation with older people, their families and carers, and the aged care sector. You can read more about what we heard in our consultation.

Let's change aged care, together
Every Australian should feel confident about accessing high quality and safe aged care, when and where they need it.
The changes mean Older people will have greater choice and control, services that respect and meet their needs, and support to stay independent as they age.
