Reimagining aged care homes: winning designs

Lived experience advisers with dementia consider shortlisted designs Lived experience advisers with dementia consider shortlisted designs

We have announced the winners of the ‘Reimagining Where We Live’ accommodation design ideas competition.

Great design can help older people to live with dignity, respect and enjoyment and improve working environments for aged care workers.

In this competition, we invited architects and designers to envision aged care accommodation of the future.

An expert jury with experience in architecture, design and aged care, judged the competition entries. Six advisers who are living with dementia provided input on the shortlisted designs.

The jury selected four winners showcasing innovative designs that are welcoming, safe, accessible, dementia friendly, and consider small-home models.

The competition helped to test and refine the draft National Aged Care Design Principles and Guidelines. The final Principles and Guidelines will commence from 1 July 2024.
