Results of the latest survey for older people

We surveyed older people, families and carers about the latest changes to aged care.
The Aged Care Reform Survey for Older People runs twice a year. It gives older people, their families and carers the chance to tell us how they want to receive information about the changes happening in aged care.
Between August and October 2024, we received 3,172 responses.
What we heard
Participants were most aware of:
- 15% wage increase for aged care workers
- 24/7 registered nurses in aged care homes
- improving food and nutrition in residential aged care.
People were less aware of:
- Council of Elders
- face-to-face support in Services Australia
- Single Assessment System and changes to aged care assessments.
We also learnt that people want to receive information through:
- email/e-newsletters
- My Aged Care Website
- Department of Health and Aged Care website.
What we're doing
We are using the feedback from this survey to improve the way we communicate the aged care changes.
We also want to make sure everyone feels confident to access affordable, safe and suitable support.
That's why we are making positive, lasting changes to aged care to put your rights and needs first. Visit the My Aged Care website to learn more about consumer confidence protections.
We hope to hear from you in our next survey in March this year. The survey link will be shared on the Aged Care Engagement Hub.
Let's change aged care, together
Every Australian should feel confident about accessing high quality and safe aged care, when and where they need it.
The changes mean Older people will have greater choice and control, services that respect and meet their needs, and support to stay independent as they age.
