Support when making decisions

Everyone has the right to make decisions about their life, including about their aged care.
From 1 July this year, there will be an easier way to register a trusted supporter to help make decisions about your care. You can register more than one person to speak on your behalf, it may be a close friend or family member.
Your supporters can help you get information, share your preferences and help make sure your wishes are known.
Having a supporter is not a replacement for acting independently and making your own decisions. It just means you are prepared and have someone registered to help if and when you need it.

Let's change aged care, together
Every Australian should feel confident about accessing high quality and safe aged care, when and where they need it.
The changes mean Older people will have greater choice and control, services that respect and meet their needs, and support to stay independent as they age.
